5th November 2009 EBU ARS ACUSTICA radio party
Whispered Art History
Back in 1963, Robert Filliou published his lecture “Whispered Art History” (histoire chuchotée de l’art)
( link = http://marabou.be/ABD2010/00_HCA.htm ), which was Art’s first birthday present. And, since then, ART’S BIRTHDAY parties are being organised across the world each year on the 17th of January.
On 17 January 2010, the M HKA (the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp) will yet again celebrate ART’S BIRTHDAY in Antwerp.
At the museum Ward Weis will perform Filliou’s HISTOIRE CHUCHOTEE DE L'ART throughout that day in a landscape comprising myriads of microphones and loudspeakers.
We want you to collaborate and be part of this sound-installation, bycontributing your very own interpretation of this text.
Guidelines and constraints:
- Pick one or several paragraphs from FILLIOU’s lecture
- Each paragraph should be filed separately, to function as a distinct part within the sound-installation
- You can translate the text, encode it, or transpose it …
- One may render HISTOIRE CHUCHOTEE DE L'ART in ways other then by way of speech
- Speaking or whispering the text should, however, not exceed half op the chosen text –opting for less then that is quite all right!
- The remainder of your text should be read in silence / contemplated inwardly
- There is no set format for your piece(-s) as far as duration goes
- Audio files in either WAV, FLAC, or MP3 (minimum 128 kbit stereo)
- The deadline: 10 January 2010
- All contributions will be published under CREATIVE COMMON LICENSE
- Upload and info at : http://www.marabou.be/ABD2010
All the material will be incorporated into the live mix that will be broadcast between 7 pm and midnight in the EBU (Eurovision) ART’S BIRTHDAY EVENT to audiences in several European countries.

Guilty-Not Guilty (PR). The programme tells the story of Stanislawa Rachwal, inmate of Auschwitz and political activist who was sentenced to death after WW11 for her anti-communist activities and was forced to confront her Nazi tormenter while in prison. The jury was stunned by the depth of moral confrontation this programme imposes on all who listen to it and by the elegant manner in which it was produced.
2. SPECIAL PRIZE
GERMANY ALLEMAGNE ARD
LOST IN MUSIC – THE CORNEL CHIRIAC STORY
DIRECTOR PATRICK BANUSH
Lost In Music – The Cornel Chiriac Story (ARD). The programme presents the biographical story of Romanian DJ, Cornal Chiriac, (photo) who came to represent a voice of freedom to a generation of young people in his homeland. The jury was impressed with the deft way in which the programme maker used music and a small story to explore a great period of repression and historical injustice.
3. SPECIAL PRIZE QUIRINALE
A silver cup offered by the President of the Republic to a programme dedicated to the consequences of the economic recession and globalisation on societies.
